About Me

Hi! I’m glad you’re here

I’m Elizabeth, a board-certified nurse practitioner working in dermatology. I grew up in the northern suburbs of Chicago and was not exactly sure what I wanted to do career-wise going into college. After bouncing around from a special education major to dietetics, I finally landed in the nursing program at the University of Illinois. After receiving my Bachelor’s degree in nursing, I started working in an intensive care unit as a new grad RN at a hospital in Chicago.

I quickly realized that night shift and bedside nursing were not for me. I started asking friends and family about other potential job opportunities. At the time, my boyfriend’s mom (who now happens to be my mother-in-law) was a nurse and just happened to previously work for a dermatologist. She passed along my resume, the office reached out for an interview, and that’s how I got into derm. It really is about who you know, and connections are everything!

Board-Certified Nurse Practitioner

…I’m lucky to say I love what I do. I have such a passion for dermatology, skincare, and education. I am obsessed with all things beauty and love sharing my knowledge, tips, and tricks with all of you! Outside of the office, you can find me spending time with family, traveling or planning our next trip, biking along the lakefront, or curled up with a good book…

I started working as an RN in the dermatology clinic in 2015. Meanwhile, I made the decision to start a nurse practitioner program. In 2018, I obtained my Master’s in Nursing and began working as a board-certified NP in the same derm practice. Over the past few years, I have gained experience in general, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology, treating a diverse patient population in Chicago. I have a special interest in treating acne and rosacea, as well as aesthetic medicine.

I love sharing knowledge & tips with you!

Such a sweet comment & I wanted to use it to highlight a couple of things ➡️

1️⃣There is no such thing as perfect skin - I deal with broken blood vessels, pigmentation, sensitivity, & blemishes. But I have found a routine to help keep those things under control & keep my skin looking healthy.

2️⃣ When someone comments on skin, I want to be really transparent that my results are not just a result of the products that I’m using. I never want to mislead or falsely advertise that just using products can give you certain results. The best results come from a consistent multi-faceted approach - including both skincare AND procedures - tailored specifically to you.

3️⃣ A few of the things I do to achieve my results are a combination of neurotoxin, microneedling, IPL, & peels all sprinkled throughout the year as needed. I also follow a SIMPLE, consistent skincare regimen with quality products that work for me - I can’t emphasize the ~simple~ part enough - plus I’ve taken a course of Accutane (has long term benefit) & was on spironolactone + oral birth control before I got pregnant.

I would love to see more transparency in this space on what everyone is doing & what REAL skin looks like - would love to hear your thoughts! 💗

PRIMERS‼️
Not going to lie, I’ve never been a big primer person - makeup, eyeshadow, or lash primers. I’ve always felt like if you have a good skincare regimen you don’t need a makeup primer. And the other two just seem like an unnecessary extra step that I don’t have time for 🤷🏼‍♀️ But I’m not a makeup artist so please don’t come for me 😅

I recently picked up a lash primer and wanted to see if I noticed a difference - what do you guys think?! I feel like they look the same??

Primers - yay or nay? Do you guys use them & notice a difference? Would love to hear!

Why I Don’t Care What Sunscreen You Use / / As I always say: the BEST Sunscreen is the one that you love & will wear consistently. If you don’t love it, you won’t reach for it.

A couple things to look for:
1. SPF 30 or above
2. Broad-spectrum
3. Water-resistant when applicable

The key is that you’re wearing something consistently & applying enough ☀️ What are your favorite sunscreens?!

DERM NP MORNING ROUTINE ☀️ PREGNANCY EDITION 🤰🏼

Some things to note:
• It’s basically the same as my pre-pregnancy routine 😜
• I like to keep things relatively simple in the AM & focus on the basics > Cleansing, Antioxidant, & Sun Protection.
• If I’m feeling dry, I will apply a moisturizer before my sunscreen - it just depends on the day
• Always extend your skincare down to your neck & chest. Apply sunscreen to any areas that are going to be exposed. You don’t necessarily need different products for these areas like I am using here - I do prefer tinted on my face & non-tinted on my body, but you can absolutely just carry down your facial products to these areas.
• Remember, skincare is PERSONAL. My skin type is normal to dry & sensitive as heck! What works for me may not work for you and vice versa. If your struggling with your routine or skin concerns in general, it’s always best to see a professional to get on a personalized regimen for you.

I will share my updated evening routine - AKA what I’m doing since I can’t use my retinoid 😭 - in PART TWO so stay tuned 😘

Things I’ve said about SKINCARE that people DISAGREE with 🙂 I saw this idea from @skinbeautybysam & thought it would be fun to share some more ~unpopular~ opinions!

Remember, skincare is really personal & these are just my opinion. What do you think, do you agree or disagree with these?!
